About the event
Description: Join us for a relaxed and accessible birding trip through El Carmelo Cemetery. We’ll look for resident and summering birds among the cemetery’s pines and flowering trees. There should be hummingbirds visiting the bottlebrush trees, woodpeckers searching for insects in the bark, and jays making their presence known throughout the area. With luck, we may even spot a red-shouldered hawk gliding through the trees.
Trip Difficulty:
We will cover approximately ¼–½ mile, primarily on flat paved roads and paths. Some short sections may include grass or slightly uneven ground.
What to Wear/Bring:
Dress in layers for changing coastal weather and wear comfortable shoes. Please bring water, sunscreen, and binoculars if you have them. If you would like to borrow binoculars, let us know in advance. A lightweight portable chair may also be helpful for resting in quiet areas.
Facilities:
Please note that there are no restroom facilities available onsite.
Meeting Location:
68 Asilomar Ave, Pacific Grove, CA 93950. Ample parking is available along Asilomar Avenue outside the cemetery.
Trip Leaders: Fred Hochstaedter, Monterey Audubon Society Board of Directors
