Annual Report Photo Contest

Our Annual Report, The Sanderling, is mailed to supporters every November, and we are excited to continue the tradition of featuring your photography! The winning shot will be featured on the cover, the runner-up on the back, and honorable mentions throughout the publication.

Our conservation programs focus heavily on local seabirds and shorebirds, including the Snowy Plover, Black Oystercatcher, Heermann's Gull, Pacific Loon, and Surf Scoter, though high-quality photos of any local bird species are welcome and considered!

How to Enter & Eligibility:

  • Deadline: Submit your photo(s) via the link below by Friday, October 2nd at 11:59 PM. Multiple entries are allowed!

  • Eligibility: This contest is open to active members of the Monterey Audubon Society. If you’ve donated at least $50 to MAS in the past year, you’re already a member! If not, [click here to become a member today] ($50/year, or $25 for students and seniors).

  • Voting: Finalists will be featured on our Facebook and Instagram pages, where voting will take place in our stories from October 5th through October 8th. (Email votes will also be accepted for those not on social media - info@MontereyAudubon.org)

Technical & Image Guidelines:

  • Orientation: The Sanderling is a vertical publication (5.5" W x 8.5" H). Please keep in mind that cover submissions will need space at the top/bottom for our logo and publication title.

  • Credits: All selected photographers will receive full photo credit in the publication.

Visit our Annual Report page for previous issues of The Sanderling for cover inspiration and check out our conservation pages to learn more about the programs represented in the report.
