About the event
Visit Garland Ranch Park to learn about summertime birds! This family-friendly walk will explore an oak woodland and riparian habitats along the Carmel River. We’ll visit with our summer bird residents and learn about the plant communities that comprise their habitat. Likely birds include Acorn Woodpecker, California Scrub-jay, Hutton’s Vireo, and Oak Titmouse. We'll learn more about the exceptional biodiversity of our home, the Central Coast Bioregion.
Logistics: We’ll meet at the Visitor Center. Use the main parking lot for Garland Ranch Regional Park adjacent to Carmel Valley Road, 700 W Carmel Valley Rd, Carmel Valley, CA 93924, approximately here: https://goo.gl/maps/YHoJZFU8NVULD9W97. Allow extra time to park and walk to the starting point. Bathrooms and a drinking fountain are available along the route near the Visitor Center.
Trip Difficulty: This will be a relatively easy walk along primarily flat ground and adjacent to the river. Some trails may be slightly rocky.
Distance: The total distance for this loop walk may be up to 1.5 miles.
Leader: For general questions, contact info@montereyaudubon.org.
Other: Bring binoculars (or you can borrow ours), a hat, sunscreen and water, and a desire to learn about our broad range of local ecosystems, each harboring distinct assemblages of plants and birds. Optional: download the nature apps Seek by iNaturalist and Merlin Bird ID prior to the walk.
