About the event

Description: We will meet at the entrance gate and drive in together. We will stop at the field office for water, bathrooms, and a brief presentation about the preserve from the Wildlands Conservancy. We will then begin our walk through the preserve.

Rana Creek is one of the locations closest to the Monterey Peninsula where one can find Yellow-billed magpies. These California endemic corvids are conspicuously loud and beautiful, and are range-restricted to intact oak woodlands. Golden eagles are occasionally seen soaring over the hills, while American kestrels are often seen hunting over the grasses. We will also explore the riparian areas provided by Rana and Agua Mala creeks.

Trip Difficulty: We’ll enjoy about three miles of easy, slow-paced walking on dirt trails. Beginner friendly and family friendly.

Trip Leader: Kyan Russell

Meet: At the entrance gate to the preserve. We will meet at 9AM and go in together through the gate.

Facilities: There are bathrooms and drinking water at the field office.
