About the event
Let's go birding! El Estero Lake, the horse-shoe shaped lake in Monterey, is home to many species of birds (eBird has reported a total of 255 species) plus it has mostly flat trails, benches, and picnic tables. We will move at a slow pace along the trail around the lake, with lots of stops along the way. We’ll likely see swallows, red-winged blackbirds, many heron species and a variety of gulls. Join us for a day of exploration! All levels of birder welcome, including beginners.
Logistics: Meet at the parking lot for the Dennis the Menace kids park, at 777 Pearl St, Monterey, CA 93940. ADA accessible bathrooms are available at this location. Parking is free, with three accessible spots available, and there is overflow parking across the road.
Trip Difficulty: Please be aware that surfaces are mixed in their accessibility - most are moderately accessible with hard-packed soil which has some small rocks and ruts, and there is some accessible sidewalk. Trails are mostly flat with no steep slopes. There are benches along the way to stop and rest at, and this trip is designed with breaks in mind.
Distance: About 1- 1.5 miles.
Leaders: Birdability Captains Susan Lambert and Bev Gatliff
Other: Bring binoculars if you have them, or let us know if you'd like to borrow some in the form when you sign up.
