Since July, we've had fun hosting our Wednesday Seawatch Field Trips. These outings are a great way to practice using spotting scopes and binoculars to train our eyes to look for seabirds and the occasional whale. Also, we chatted with visitors and passersby, building a welcoming community.

A big thank you to our wonderful leaders Amanda, Kai, Andrew, and Madison with our veteran Seawatchers Fred and Catherine. We’ve shared our project with visitors from other regions, states, and even countries. Our Facebook posts, listings in Monterey County Weekly, and website have spread the word about our project at the Point. The data we collect and the awareness we share are critical to the health of local birds and their environment.

Our most recent outing on October 21st was spectacular. We spotted a flock of Surf Scoters (there was some debate about whether we saw 25 or 26). And we had dramatic weather, including two double rainbows and a spectacular sunset!

As we start our 11th year, I want to thank everyone ready to count birds, serve as ambassadors for the project and Monterey Audubon, or simply drop by to visit. Your collective enthusiasm and energy are contagious, so keep it up!
