About the event
Description: 126th Christmas Bird Count
Join Monterey Audubon field trip leaders as we scour this phenomenal birding hotspot for as many species as we can find. We've got to help contribute to the 126th annual Christmas Bird Count! Laguna Grande Park is home to 266 species, according to eBird, and we'll try to find unique ones to the Monterey Peninsula count circle, which extends in a 5-mile radius from Jacks Peak. Learn more about the Christmas Bird Count and other counts you can participate in on the National Audubon Society website HERE.
Meet: 9:00 AM near the volleyball courts and BBQs on the Monterey side of Laguna Grande Park off of Virgin Ave.
Trip Difficulty: This park has relatively flat, and normally hard-packed trails. There are sections where we may venture down the side-trails which are covered with wood chips and less smooth. Given the wet season, the ground may be damp in places.
Facilities: There are accessible bathrooms at the meeting spot near the picnic tables and volleyball court.
What to bring: Sunscreen, hat, water, and warm layers. Check the weather before heading out! Snacks and water are recommended if you get hungry fast! If you'd like to borrow binoculars, please indicate how many during the registration process.
Trip leader: Bill Hubick, MAS trip leader and board member, other guest leaders to be announced
