About the event
Join the Monterey Audubon Society Young Birders Club at Laguna Grande Park to participate in the 125th annual Christmas Bird Count! This 24-hour birding marathon has birders spread out across the count circle around the Monterey Peninsula, searching for as many species as we can tally. The Laguna Grande Park birding territory is covered by local pro-birder Bill Hubick, who we'll join for two-hours in the morning. We'll scour the willows and water for all of the birds we can find - 264 species have been observed at this park and we'll find as many as we can!
Potential bird groups include grebes, cormorants, warblers, chickadees, hawks, falcons, ducks, geese, sparrows and flycatchers!
The Christmas Bird Count will happen no matter what the weather does, so be prepared for mist, showers, or rain!
Time and meeting: Meet at the picnic tables near the volleyball court on the Monterey side of the park located on Virgin Ave HERE.
What to bring: Sunscreen, hat, water, layers. Snacks and water are recommended if you get hungry fast! If you'd like to borrow binoculars, please indicate how many during the registration process.
If you have to cancel after having signed up, please email Amanda at amanda.preece@montereyaudubon.org to let us know!
