About the event
Description: Jacks Peak Park Birding This lovely Monterey Pine forest habitat is home to 110 reported species of bird, as reported on eBird. I'd wager we'll find Band-tailed Pigeon, Steller's Jay, Anna's Hummingbird, all of the woodpeckers, and maybe Pine Siskin and Purple Finch. We'll also check out logs for salamanders and search for banana slugs. The hike will give us excellent views of the Monterey Bay, and there are a couple of benches to stop and practice our listening skills. It'll be a fun time!
Meet: 3:00 PM at the parking lot near the bathrooms at the Jacks Peak Parking area. At the top of the road after yo pass the entrance kiosk, you turn right and that road will end at the meeting spot.
Trip Difficulty: We’ll be hiking on the Skyline Trail, which is well packed, but can be dusty and there can be small roots in the trail. It's a 0.7-mile hike.
Facilities: There are bathrooms and drinking fountains at the meeting spot.
What to bring: Sunscreen, hat, water, layers. Snacks and water are recommended if you get hungry fast! If you'd like to borrow binoculars, please indicate how many during the registration process.
Trip leader: Amanda Preece, Monterey Audubon Society trip leader and board member
