About the event
Description: Let's see who's home! We’ll check out the Asilomar nest boxes on the Conference Grounds, which multiple bird species utilize through the summer, including Western Bluebirds, Violet-green and Tree Swallows, Oak Titmouse, and Chestnut-backed Chickadees. We’ll focus on patiently observing bird behavior and finding fledglings and their persistent parents. Other species we'll likely see will be nesting Acorn Woodpeckers, Barn Swallows, and young Dark-eyed Juncos, Pygmy Nuthatches, House Finches, and perhaps White-crowned Sparrows! The Red-shouldered Hawks might also make an appearance.
Trip Difficulty: The total distance covered on this walk will not exceed 1/2 miles and will be on paved surfaces. This trip is open to all levels of birders! Bring binoculars if you have them or make a note during registration if you'd like to borrow some from Monterey Audubon.. Amanda will bring a spotting scope to share, plus informational graphics and a field guide.
What to wear: Dress in layers. We’ll likely be in full sun for most of the walk, so hats and sunscreen are recommended!
What to bring: Sunscreen, hat, water, layers. Snacks and water are recommended if you get hungry fast! If you'd like to borrow binoculars, please indicate how many during the registration process.

The closest parking area is lot F, immediately to the right when you enter the conference grounds parking area. Handicapped parking spots are available next to the Social Hall. Entrance to the park and parking is free.
