About the event
Description: Come join us at this local city park in Marina that is home to some stunning species! With wetland habitat, oak restoration progressing nearby, and lots of bushy habitat, we hope to spot locally nesting bird species like the Red-winged Blackbird, Allen’s Hummingbird, White-crowned Sparrow, Marsh Wren, and more! We will take every opportunity to sit down and practice listening to bird calls and songs. This slow-paced walk is great for a beginner or the seasoned birder who wants to dive deeper into bird behavior and observe and discuss species interactions. We might also spot the recently arrived Scaly-breasted Munia, who has an intriguing backstory and is spreading north across our state. Walk will conclude at 11:30.
Trip Difficulty: This birding walk will stick to the maintained paved or hard-packed dirt trails that encircle the main pond at Locke-Paddon Park. We won’t walk over 1-mile distance. There are a few benches to sit at, but if you have a small chair, please bring it along.
What to wear: Dress in layers and wear a hat.
What to bring: Water, sunscreen and possibly a small chair that might be good for sitting in quiet spots. BINOCULARS WILL BE PROVIDED, BUT BRING YOUR OWN IF YOU HAVE THEM!
Where to meet: Northwest parking lot near the bathrooms and beginning of paved paths.
