About the event
Description: Come join us for a morning of Spring birding at beautiful Pfeiffer/Big Sur State Park. We will make at least one stop along Hwy 1 near Pt Sur Lighthouse for some roadside birding before we get to the park. This trip will involve an easy, leisurely stroll/roll on an accessible path along the Big Sur River and among the park redwoods. We should have a nice mix of the usual coastal species for Monterey County and of course, be on the lookout for California Condor.
Meet for carpools: Meet at the Park and Ride near the Starbucks at Crossroads at 7:30 am. Click here for map.
Trip Logistics: This trip involves about 40 minutes of driving down the coast. We would appreciate a couple of drivers for carpools who don’t mind driving the distance and who feel comfortable with Big Sur road conditions.
Weather down the coast can be variable so dress in layers. Bring/wear sun protection. We will share an update as the date gets closer.
Please pack snacks/lunch and bring water.
Please let us know if you need binoculars otherwise bring yours. There will be at least one scope available to the group but feel free to bring your own.
Facilities: Restroom facilities are available at the park.
Special Considerations: This trip will be geared toward beginners and those who need a little more time. This will be more about “slow birding” rather than quantity birding. If there are cooperative birds that allow us to linger on them, then we will take the time to study behavior, notice field marks and listen to what they have to say.
Trip Leaders: Mary Kenney and Bev Gatliff; Monterey Audubon volunteers
