About the event

Description: Join us for a relaxed and accessible birding trip through El Carmelo Cemetery. We’ll look for resident and migrant birds among the cemetery’s pines and flowering trees. There should be hummingbirds visiting the bottlebrush trees, woodpeckers searching for insects in the bark, and jays making their presence known throughout the area. With luck, we may even spot uncommon passerines passing through on their migration south.

Trip Difficulty: We will cover approximately ¼–½ mile, primarily on flat paved roads and paths. Some short sections may include grass or slightly uneven ground. This trip is likely accessible for those who use manual or motorized wheelchairs.

What to Wear/Bring: Dress in layers for changing coastal weather and wear comfortable shoes. Please bring water, sunscreen, and binoculars if you have them. If you would like to borrow binoculars, let us know in advance. A lightweight portable chair may also be helpful for resting in quiet areas.

Facilities: Please note that there are no restroom facilities available onsite.

Meeting Location: 68 Asilomar Ave, Pacific Grove, CA 93950. Ample parking is available along Asilomar Avenue outside the cemetery, and there is one van-accessible parking spot across the street on Asilomar ave.

Trip Leaders: Kyan Russell, Monterey Audubon Society Board of Directors, and Bev Gatliff, Birdability Captain
