About the event
Description: Join us for a Birdability "Big Sit" at Toro Park! We will be gathering at the picnic tables for a relaxed birding session. The main focus will be on observing birds from the group picnic area, though there may be opportunities for leisurely walking along the small creek. Let's see how many birds we can observe while stationary! We hope to observe oak savannah birds like White-breasted Nuthatch, as well as other oak-loving birds along the small creek.
Logistics: Meet at the Shade Tree picnic tables at Toro Park. Weather is generally warm at Toro Park, so be sure to bring sun protection.
Please let us know if you need to borrow binoculars. There will be at least one scope available to the group but feel free to bring your own.
Facilities: There are handicapped parking places, as well as ADA-accessible restrooms in the park. There is no potable water so please bring your own water. Additionally, feel free to bring a picnic lunch!
Special Considerations: This trip will be geared toward beginners and those who need a little more time. This will be more about “slow birding” rather than quantity birding. We will pay special attention to bird calls. For those interested in learning more about the California Breeding Bird Atlas, we will be discussing and practicing submitting Atlas checklists.
Trip Leaders: Kai Russell, Amie Gahan, Bev Gatliff.
