About the event
Description: Join us for a relaxed morning at Asilomar Social Hall. We will be observing birds from the back of the hall, perhaps nature journaling or maybe sharing a poem or two. We can discuss birds that are around and their behaviors and habitat. No birding experience is necessary, just a desire to be out in nature and share a quiet moment appreciating the surroundings.
Phoebe A. Hearst Social Hall has been made accessible, including restroom facilities. There are places to sit and observe from the back of the social hall.
This trip is open to all levels of birders! Bring binoculars if you have them. Bring anything you like for nature journaling or a poem to share. We will have a field guide or two and some bird pics to draw if you feel inclined. If you need to borrow binoculars, we have some to lend out. There is a chance to note that you'd like to borrow binoculars in the RSVP form. RSVP required!
Trip Difficulty: Although it will be a bird sit, if desired it will be possible to walk around the social hall and all the adjacent trails are ADA accessible.
What to wear: Dress in layers - the plan is to be outside. If it rains we may end up inside. I have noticed that when the fire is lit inside there can be a strong smell of smoke, so if you are sensitive, you may not want to attend.
Meet: 9:30 am at the east-side entrance to the main lodge, called the l or labelled as Guest Check-In on the signs. The closest parking area is lot F, immediately to the right when you enter the conference grounds parking area. Handicapped parking spots are available next to the Social Hall. Entrance to the park and parking is all free. The Social Hall is located here using Google maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/raXgbigNUYetMRVu9
Facilities: The restroom in the Social Hall/Guest Check-In building, where we will meet, is wheelchair accessible. There is also a small café where you can buy a hot drink or snack.
Trip Leaders: Susan Lambert & Bev Gatliff
Contact: If you have any additional questions, have access concerns, or if you need to cancel your RSVP, please email the field trip leader at info@montereyaudubon.org
