Towering over the Salinas valley, this 3,000’ rocky ridge commands striking views in all directions.  Spring sunrise, accompanied by singing rock and canyons, is not to be missed!  Pine-oak woodlands, grasslands, and steep chaparral slopes sustain a diverse summer bird life.

Location:  From Highway 101 in Prunedale go north to the Highway 156 split, and continue on 156 east to San Juan Bautista.  At the stoplight, turn right and go up San Juan Canyon Rd. 12 mi. to the parking area at road’s end.

Highlights:  Rock and canyon wren, rufous-crowned sparrow, western tanager, ash-throated flycatcher, warblers in spring migration.

Best season:  spring-summer.
