Andrew Molera State Park  (P, $, R,

Situated along the scenic Big Sur coast, this may be the premier county location for vagrant songbirds during spring/fall migration.  Trails meander through riparian, oak, and sycamore woodlands to a lagoon, beach, and coastal bluffs with ocean vistas.

Location:  Drive 25 miles south of Carmel along Highway 1 to the park entrance on the right.  Follow the pavement 50 meters downhill and turn right into a large parking area.

Highlights:  Fall vagrant and spring transient passerines, breeding purple martin, warbling vireo, grasshopper sparrow, wrentit, chestnut-backed chickadee.

Best season:  spring-summer.
